Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is anybody else worried about the lack of diverse opinion here?
0·23 hours agoI could argue that one of your facts is subjective: the Trump administration is only incompetent based on your reference frame. Now, it is a morally bankrupt reference frame where they are competent (they’re very competent at normalizing the corruption), but still, they’ve proven quite competent in reaching their set goal so far.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the funniest impulse purchase you’ve made/seen someone you know make?
0·1 day agoI bought ten of these. Somewhat out of impulse, but I also needed a few more dollars in my order for free shipping. My older son and me love hiding these around the house.
Edit: I don’t endorse the message on the site I linked, part of the fun is that everybody knows I’m not religious at all.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the funniest impulse purchase you’ve made/seen someone you know make?
0·1 day agoI was on Twitter somewhere in 2009 I think, and I agree, it was shit then.
I think SW 7, 8 and 9 are OK and liked them better than 1 and 2, which I disliked so much that I never bothered to see 3.
Making electricity this way, storing it in the battery and using it to drive a vehicle have their own efficiencies, all less than 100%. Also, these smaller types of generators aren’t that efficient to begin with. So I doubt it.
Russia was also a pretty big threat in 1939…
Some people melt their ice cream in the microwave before eating it, though.
My dad used to put ice cream in a mug, and then place it on the metal plate of the biggest burner in the stove to melt it a little. This worked about a hundred times before the mug exploded in a lot of tiny pieces.
Chris Simpson artist?
Makes sense I guess. I don’t experience this downvoting behavior though, probably because I’ll block any magazine where this happens.

Science Memes@mander.xyz•Harvard Places Math Professor Martin Nowak on Paid Administrative Leave Over Epstein Ties
0·11 days agoNot to be that guy, but Epstein wasn’t always known to be the bad guy to the general public, and this professor might not have known about the not public stuff he was doing. I haven’t read the article though, so maybe not.
Edit: read the article, Harvard only put the guy on leave because everything became public with the release of the Epstein files. It seems to be that this professor was in on it, and Harvard had taken action against him before but lifted the sanctions because of reasons.
So, out of curiousity, why are you on Lemmy if that’s how you feel?

Uplifting News@lemmy.world•Setback for the Commission: EU MEPs let chat control fail
0·12 days agoThis time. They’ll keep trying, like all the times before.
Edit:
However, the issue is not yet off the table. Despite the failure in committee, the European Parliament’s plenary session is expected to address the dossier as early as next week. The LIBE decision is considered an official recommendation for the plenary, but further surprises cannot be ruled out in the charged debate. Proponents of chat control in the Commission and the Council of Ministers, who are seeking an extension of the powers until April 2028, will try to close ranks in the plenary. However, should the failure be confirmed there, voluntary chat control would face a swift end.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•FIFA President Gianni Infantino attended Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’ meeting wearing a red hat.
0·16 days agoEw, that’s the slimy laugh.
You should read your comments back, because they definitely read more 'murican than other people are.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•As someone in stem who has never felt smarter than anyone how do you justify your sucess?
0·16 days agoBeing the smartest person in the room means you have nothing new to learn from those in the room.
If that’s how you feel when you think you’re the smartest, you’re not that smart.
Isn’t this a known dark pattern? Not so mildly infuriating for me.

It’s Ukraine, without “the”. “The Ukraine” is the soviet name, which Putin likes to use.
