I know I’m putting forward a series but Blood of Zeus has one of the best soundtrack work I’ve heard. It feels epic, thematic and is actually tailored to each scene and the characters in it.
It’s like Peter and the Wolf on steroids turned into a proper composed orchestra set in Greek mythology on every episode. Writing and voice acting is good enough but the show becomes one of my favorites because of the music.
Lord of the Rings, imo. Nothing wrong with the movies but the soundtrack is just that good
Gonna have to say there’s no way I can separate the visuals from the music in LoTR. I would never answer with this.
Hence the existence of the word “synergy”. LOTR is one of my all time favourite films exactly because the music matches the environment so well.
The synergy goes so far beyond the music & the visuals. Every person working on those films poured their hearts and souls into it; it had to be a childhood dream to be able to realize that world.

Fair enough, the visuals are also really top tier. IMO the most stunning parts are just where they filmed it (New Zealand?) tho, so I don’t see them as being quite as specific to these movies as the music is
Yeah, New Zealand really is a magical place. Pretty cool they had all those old civilizations to film in. They must have done a lot of work getting Minas Tirith camera-ready after all those years. And it was especially cool of them to hire an indigenous Balrog instead of just setting a Europpean actor on fire the way most movies do.
Lmao, that’s why I said the most stunning parts imo. The bits of the movies that make me stop and say “wow” are mostly just the mountain shots as the fellowship hikes and the green hills around the shire. Nothing against the rest of the visuals (like you mentioned, the cities were done really well), I’m just much more interested by nature personally
For me, the nature moments don’t have too many musical tie ins with the exceptions of the herogasm helicopter shot for the full fellowship theme shortly after leaving Rivendell.
When I listen to the soundtrack I see Minas Morgul, and Weathertop, and Khazad-Dhum, the Argonath, the caverns below Khazad-Dhum…
Came here to say this as well. Movie is kinda meh but the soundtrack is so solid I even like the Coldplay song on there! (and imo Coldplay is WACK)

Sometimes I am objectively wrong in things I’ve enjoyed. For example, the original Hitman video game adaptation movie from 2007. I enjoyed it when it came out despite it having an abysmal score on Rotten Tomatoes (currently sitting at 16%). I watched it several times and really enjoyed it. I recently rewatched it, maybe two years ago and… what was that guy (old me) thinking?

No. I enjoyed it immensely. That’s just how good the soundtrack is; to be even better than that.
It’s not a terrible movie. I think the main complaint about it is the use of the manic pixie girl trope.

Batman Forever and the X-Files Movie Soundtrack.
Love me some scores, but these were both rock solid soundtracks.
Both of these had fantastic original(?) songs.
And Batman Forever marks the beginning of the end of U2.
The Village. Certainly one of Shyamalan’s better films, but the soundtrack is off the charts beautiful.

1492: Conquest of Paradise. Very few people remember the movie (I still do and rewatch it regularly), but the soundtrack by Vangelis is an absolute banger.
In general, his soundtracks tend to be better than the movies. Alexander is another great example. Chariots of Fire and Bounty are fine movies, but still greatly enhanced by his soundtracks. Perhaps the only movie that stood on its own against a soundtrack by Vangelis was Blade Runner.
Yeah, I definitely like Vangelis stuff myself.

Chariots isn’t that great of a movie but I still love it, primarily bc they respected Vangelis enough to let the soundtrack talk. Tremendous, sensitive, emotional work from a truly great one

“Let It Go” is a banger and I’ll fight anyone who says otherwise.
Does anyone say otherwise? I feel like everyone agrees its a banger. There’s a few other good tracks as well.
The funny thing is, the song kind of ruined the movie. Hear me out.
Originally the movie was based off of The Ice Queen, the old children’s story. And the first act of the movie kind of stays true to that - Elsa runs away and she’s going to be the villain of the story (and hot take but i think the first act of Frozen might be the strongest of any Disney movie, its up there at least imo).
But Let It Go was so compelling and sympathetic that it wins you over, which is a problem because now the audiance is pulling for the (soon to be) villain. So they basically had to rewrite the rest of the movie with a kind of weird fakeout villain, and Elsas arc is actually sort of backpeadaling away from the message of Let It Go, which is about never going back and leaving everything behind. As a result the movie is pretty messy in my opinion, although still fun for the animation and music.
Does anyone say otherwise?
I honestly haven’t looked but I feel like I’ve a few downvotes on this one.
Fascinating learning on The Ice Queen and follow on and I fully agree on the disrobing of the villain with that moment.
For what it’s worth, I know all the words to Let It Go and there is zero shame for me on that front. It has been banged out in our car well over a hundred times.
