      Have you met a Republican?

Did it seem to you like they had enough grey matter to experience a complex emotion like shame?

He’s the former Prime Minister of Hungary, nationalist and pro-Russia. AFAIK he’s has always been a stick in the wheel of Europe when it came to helping Ukraine. He’s been PM for 16 years but recently lost the last election against a more pro-Europe party.

The sentence is a bit weird, but from the article

The newspaper commented that while there were several reasons to object Orbán as an apologist for Russian President Vladimir Putin and others, as he is “the dream MAGA-conservative candidate,” due to his track record of blocking “mass migration, liberal NGOs, and Hungary’s left-leaning courts and press.”

In short, he’s a slimy POS, just like Trump.

Orban was the right-wing hardliner president of Hungary until he got finally voted out earlier this year. He ran something akin to a dictatorship and violently suppressed dissent and demonstrations.

In addition to what others have said he’s now been ousted from Hungary so he is probably looking for a new revenue stream. Trump is hoping that he can use him to further his interests in Europe.

It’s really dumb though, it’s not as if Hungry hasn’t been a thorn in everyone’s aside for the last 20 odd years, everyone knows who he is, and what he’s like. He’s not going to get anyone’s backing, he has been 100% pro Russia from the start, which means he’s been making zero allies back home.

This isn’t really newsworthy in and of itself, it’s just another demonstration of who Trump is. There’s basically zero chance he is actually going to get elected, so it doesn’t really matter.

Also, secretary general is the head of the UN, not the representative for any single country. I assume some percentage of the UN has to agree and vote on the secretary, so hopefully this goes nowhere.
