Twitch continues to deteriorate as a platform because what do you mean I can’t TAB OUT TO MY SECOND MONITOR DURING THE AD BREAK
I NEED TO FOCUS THE TAB AND THE WINDOW FOR THE AD TO PLAY???
They’ve blocked Twitch in Korea. I don’t miss it.
Why do they keep shooting themselves in the foot? Will enough people put up with this shit to keep them in business?
I dunno, I haven’t looked at the site in probably five years or longer, but maybe they think they can hold out long enough that the next generation will just accept this is how it is? Is that the plan?
Really makes you wonder the addiction people have to watching streams that they aren’t immediately leaving the service for good after seeing that.
Copy/paste of the steps i have posted in a friend group discord.
Block Twitch Ads without pausing stream Will not work in Chrome
In Ublock Origin Dashboard
- My filters (tab) --> Add twitch.tv##+js(twitch-videoad)
- Select Apply
- Settings (tab) --> Scroll to bottom of page
- Check I am an advanced user
- Select the cog to the right of the text I am an advanced user
- At the bottom of the page, locate userResourcesLocation
- Change it from unset to https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pixeltris/TwitchAdSolutions/master/vaft/vaft.user.js
- If there is already a URL: At the end of the existing URL, add a space and then the above link
That doesn’t sound like my concern. Ads, everywhere, all the time, for everything, does sound like my concern.
Twitch soon: Drink your verification can
TODAY, on BLACK MIRROR EPISODES in Real LIFE
I kid you not, there’s this BM episode where they train on indoor bikes and sleep in pods and have to watch the ad on the screen lest it screeches at them
FUCK YOU TWITCH 🤗💖

Tech CEOs watched that series for inspiration for new products. They read 1984 for the same reason.
the episode was called: 15 Million Merits
RESUME VIEWING

** 15 million merits
Ah shit thanks
Every dystopic shit that eventually happens in real life has been featured in a BM episode.
I am starting to suspect that either the authors of BM know something we don’t, or that some people are treating BM as some kind of an instruction manual.
We’re a few years away from the first phase of “Be Right Back.”
years? i’d be deeply surprised if it wasn’t happening already
unfortunately, when you get good sci-fi writers who use the medium to examine social tendencies & human psychology, then try to draw out a possible conclusion whilst also having the audience take a step back by introducing a fantastical element… you have a team of people who will predict the future, despite really not wanting to
Was an episode of Max Headroom where it was illegal to own an off-switch for your television.
40 years earlier, and still ahead of its time.
It was referenced in every episode, but one episode was about the people who had one.

Incredibly, this image has sound, I can hear this image! Yeah, pretty much I can hear the high pitched tone that plays when Bingham “Bing” Madsen dares to look away from the screen and close the eyes during the WraithBabes ad break. Resume watching, resume watching.
If I happen accros this; I’ll think very badly about whoever bought the ad.
I don’t understand how anyone can use the Internet without ublock. I have before, and am about to again, change fuel stations due to them installing those stupid ad playing pumps.
Seeing those was one of the more dystopian experiences I had when visiting the US a while back. The entire concept was absolutely insane to me.
What maybe surprised me the most is that they weren’t vandalised. Like, if my nearest gas station had one of those you can bet that I would get a ski mask and go smash them up at night when the station was closed. After a couple rounds I can only assume they would get the message and stop installing them. I’m honestly surprised that people doing just that isn’t more common in the US.
Some of the fuel pumps have a hidden mute option. The 2nd button from the top right usually mutes them for me.
I’ve tried all the buttons with no luck. But also, I’m just going to vote with my wallet and stop doing business with them for doing stupid stuff like that.
it wont block twitch ads, they add it to thier videos, so it somewhat unblockable. i heard its expensive, thats why google doesnt do it.
Apparently car/house keys can fit into the speaker slots and kill the sound.
Those are so atrocious. I just found out the closest gas station near my house installed big ass screens on the pumps that are bigger than my largest tablet and have impressively loud speakers. The station previously didn’t have any video screens so when I passed by the screen to unscrew the gas cap, and it started blasting the ad I nearly jumped out of my skin.
I don’t have a clue where another gas station without the ad screens even is. Blegh 😮💨
The ones around me have a big old mute button and I’ve gotten into the habit of hitting that button as gas starts to flow so I don’t hear more than a second or two of whatever garbage they’re playing
…yeah, my wife tells me some stations have started disabling the two-o’clock mute button; haven’t encountered one yet but the day i do is the day i start carrying an icepick to mute those speakers the old-fashioned way…
I have a standing bounty, 1/8oz good weed for proof of dead surveillance infra. One little shit tried turning in three parts off the same plate reader
Anyways, the kids are alright and would probably help you out if properly incentivized ;)
i fucking love you for this

The pumps around here in the middle state have all muted their ads or at least have the volumes turned way down. When I drive somewhere else they catch me off guard.
Yeah but uBlock can’t or at least doesn’t block Twitch ads, so that doesn’t really apply here.
Of course it does, I have never seen an ad in Twitch, this is in Firefox, don’t know how it works in Chrome with the messed up adblock system 🤷
Sorry but that’s just wrong. Ads on Twitch are forced in a way that can’t be easily bypassed locally. That’s why stuff like Twitch AdSolutions exists. The common workaround is using a proxy server in countries that don’t get ads, maybe you live in one of those.
I used to support testing the adblock solutions from Pixeltris some years ago when Twitch actively starting fighting adblockers. It turned out the only reliable way is to use a proxy or VPN of a country that doesnt serve ads via amazons ad system. Mostly small countries where it’s not worth place advertisments. I am using eithe czech, polish or Luxembourg IPs and usually dont get any ads this way anymore as there are no corporstions using their af service.
ublock can too block twitch ads, because it can run adsolutions itself. it’s even on that page you linked.
Yeah that’s true but it’s really just a method to run a more complex userscript, which isn’t really comparable to the element blocking rules that uBlock normally handles.
Oh it seems that you are right, I didn’t know that, I thought it was just blocked through ublock. Thanks for your comment
No worries
Thank you. I just stopped using that website overall, because of all the ads thrown down my throat.
Theirs a script on github to block twitch ads, works flawlessly
it does but with Twitch it’s a constant battle. you can go for days or weeks on end and it’ll work great then boom a few days to a week and it won’t work anymore until the maintainers figure out yet another way to circumvent twitch ads.
It just got to a point for me where I just stopped using twitch. I mean the site overall and the content/streamers have just gotten a lot worse in the past few years and there’s really nothing on there anymore worth watching.
You can add a little string of text to ublock and itll work again. Havent seen an ad nonconsentually in years on there
Dont say you can do it, and not share it man. Spill the beans
Ill link it when i get off work
Here you go fellow seafarer https://github.com/pixeltris/TwitchAdSolutions
Looks like it’s a decade old problem and the solution isn’t super clean.
A long time ago I took some online classes, and the teacher could see if the software used for the classes was not in focus. I used a VM to run it, and as long as it was in focus on the VM the VM didn’t have to be in focus itself
The solution is to not use the service.
“Drink verification can”.
what is that from? it sounds familiar
It’s a greentext from 2013 apparently. It can be found on reddit, and I’ve seen it here, but I doubt I could find it.
It’s from Demolition Man. An 80s sci-fi/action movie.

Oh, right! As everybody knows, 2013 was years before the 1980s decade, and so this is the original source that inspired the movie!
I don’t recall that in demolition man. I just watched it a month ago. I’ll turn it on tonight
as an aside, that’s a great movie.
4chan greentext
Pretty sure it’s from Futurama.
For a better experience?? Actually hilarious.

LOL, fuck your brainwashing.
I feel like viewing twitch on your second monitor is quite common. That window is almost always going to be out of focus. What a shitty short-sighted system
