There’s 5.35 million Irish people and 348 million Americans. The article is saying the rates are changing, and that’s understandable due to the current political climate. But, it’s just not feasible for most Americans.

Natalia Lange, a migrant support worker based in Crosshaven, county Cork, moved there from Michigan with her husband after the 2024 US election. Lange, who is half-Hungarian and has an EU passport

Step 1 to becoming an EU citizen: Be an EU citizen.

While I get what you are saying I would argue that the Americans that are leaving and becoming immigrants aren’t the shitty Americans that would never think of such a thing.

Two ways you get to leave this country “easily”:

        1. unattached with little to lose. Go work abroad and establish residency. Cost of the plane ticket to get there.

        2. lots of money. Buy a golden visa.

For the rest of us it’s a major undertaking with lots of sacrifice, upheaval, risk, and difficulty.

(Yes, this is a simplification and there are exceptions, but for the most part this is true)

americans that vote for any side of their uniparty are shitty americans.
The fact they don’t understand that is more proof they need to build that wall.

Well, there are a few big cliffs, I suppose. But that sounds like a lot of work. Hopefully the shitty weather and constant banter should keep most of ye away.

My dad missed out on this by one generation. Our family came over during the Gold Rush, and he wasn’t born until after WW2, so, yeah.

Wish I could go. I’m only a stuntman though, no fucking way I’d be brought over any other way than a program like this. =(

Ha! I’m not a ‘big time’ stunt guy I got into it a few years ago!

I literally was acting in a small movie playing ice hockey, and the stunt coordinator was like ‘you actually played right?’ “Yeah man I played in college” ‘Oh cool can I have you take a few big hits?’

I was like hell yeah lets do it, and he showed me how we could pretend to do big hits instead of actually doing them, and then he was like ‘hey you’re pretty good at this you should do stunts!’ so, I linked up with some stunt people and started learning to do fights and how to fall and all that fun stuff.

Now, I’m ‘in the wings’ of one of the bigger action companies (you’ve definitely seen their movies), so I’m waiting for the call up to get to do their pictures!

I’d love to. The Irish seem like lovely people. Y’all don’t happen to need a dude good with electronics but no degree, would ya?

Realistically you’d need to get sponsored by a company unless any of your grandparents were Irish citizens (in which case it’s straightforward).

Edit: there are a decent number of tech jobs though so worth a look if you’re genuinely interested.

I do. Unless you are in immediate danger, to me, it’s running for the hills instead of getting involved and fighting back. It’s a cop out. But to each their own I suppose.

Idk, getting rid of fascism so that maybe people have a chance at suffering less? You know, caring about someone other than yourself? Beating it while it’s still incompetent and we still have a chance? But ya, let’s advocate for leaving the country, screw that third of people that voted with you would so easily abandon. You’re a coward and a cuck if you give up the fight to run, especially when the election was so dubious and their grasp on power so weak.

I mean, I get that. Fighting the good fight, etc.

But my point being- not enough people give a flying fuck. I don’t begrudge anyone not wasting more of their life let alone their kids’ lives trying to fight for something that people who are in it clearly don’t think is important enough to fight against.

I’m honestly just tired of it all. Fight so long and people can’t do the bare minimum to vote and you’re telling people who don’t sacrifice even more than they already have that they’re a cuck? Pathetic attitude IMO.

            I mean here- https://www.npr.org/2026/04/16/nx-s1-5781002/georgia-focus-groups-trump-iran-war

Look at the level of people we’re working with here.

Lol what the fuck have you sacrificed? Your time? Your convenience? You haven’t sacrificed anything so yes, your unwillingness to fight back when you still live in comfort and relative safety is the peak of cuckdom

OK man. Keep yelling at internet strangers telling them they haven’t done enough. Maybe ill read about you in the papers one day doing something worth while. Probably not.

Reading two comments and you know anything about me. Fuck off.

On probability, and informed a little extra by your profile, you’re a white male who makes above the national average salary, probably quite a bit above based on your active participation in curling, not a very accessible sport. You’re on Lemmy, which by probability means you likely work in IT or tech or programming or similar. So I’m pretty god damn confident I know enough to know you haven’t sacrificed shit and leaving the country would be as big a bitch move as is possible to make. Being exhausted from reading social media and feeling burned out by the news and MAGAts isn’t sacrifice.

If I could convince my family to go, I would. If nothing else, I don’t want my kids growing up in a fascist Christian hell hole. The brain drain is real too.
