What? Huang doesn’t predate cars.
This quote reeks of the Bush “you don’t get fooled again” quote that, as it turns out, he was trying to avoid giving his political opponents ammo saying “shame on me.” He was actually thinking quickly there. But this guy just sounds stupid. We played in the streets in the 70s and 80s. When cars came along you moved the fuck outta the way and resumed when they passed. This was not rocket science.
Also, parks existed and still do. Same with lawns. Also, asphalt is a bad surface for children to play on. Parks are better.
You can’t play nearly anywhere outside when cars dominate your culture so entirely that cities are designed for them and not people.
