  • Most of the countries which helped defeat fascism in WW2 had a checkered history before and after the fact. The Americans of course pulled Operation Gladio and sponsored fascist dictatorships all over Latin America during the Cold War while IBM gave the Nazis the accounting tools they needed for the Holocaust. Liberal capitalism the world over starved the people with austerity leading to the material conditions for the rise of fascism. The Stalinist USSR in turn pushed the Third Period policies which had a massive part in keeping the Stalinist parties from fighting fascism effectively, which played an important role in Nazism’s victory in Germany, cut up Poland with the Nazis, and funded the SRP and Francis Yockey.

In Spain of course, American oil fueled the fascists while the NKVD commissars shot the anarchists and POUMistas in the back.

  • I get what you mean. I won’t pretend like bigotry isn’t a core plank of the platform of the GOP or Independent Ireland. Still, an awful lot of bigoted people still felt the allure of people like Bernie Sanders and may join a trade union in certain circumstances. Such things also go a long way towards moving them away from bigotry if they succeed, because it shows that gay people and migrants were never the thing making them miserable.

My point though is moreso that saying that the farmers had it coming and giving up on them is not how one digs one’s way out of the pit one is stuck in. I don’t particularly wanna turn my back on conservative communities as irreparably fucked and feel proud of being smarter than them. I would like the community around me to be better. And saying that the farmers had it coming rather than using the opportunity to push them left is essentially patting oneself on the back for moral superiority rather than making life better.

I’m a migrant myself. I chose to come another country and integrate myself. I’d quite like it to be nicer, y’know?

  • If you utterly dismiss farmers as incorrigibly stupid rather than trying to talk with them, they will never change. If you leave agricultural workers to the wolves while the fascists pretend to have their backs, will they support you or the fascists?

Did you know most of the majority-black counties in the USA are rural areas in the South that vote overwhelmingly for Democrats? Are they also ejeets that deserve to get their cows screwed?

What about the people who get screwworms in their injuries? That’s gonna be the poor bastards who get employed to work with the livestock. Who works in shitty underpaid farm labour? Poor whites, black people, immigrants. People who have few other choices.

Snobbery against rural areas is just classism. It’s how Republicans could get such a grip on them in the first place. Go ahead and only struggle amongst educated people in the cities and scratch your head when when your country stays fascist. Watch the rural-urban divide get wider.

  • Part of the point is that the Emperor is also not perfect. He got too full of himself which led to his deification against his will. He was also literally an imperialist and an authoritarian.

As I interpret the lore his intentions were largely noble but his hubris and refusal to acknowledge the existence of the Chaos gods led to the disillusionment of many of his kids/generals, thus leading to the Horus Heresy and the shitty state of the 41st millennium.

  • I was very antagonistic because I grew up an atheist in a conservative ultracatholic hell. Now I live in a chill place that used to also be conservative ultracatholic hell. I got to meet religious people that didn’t sincerely believe that I deserve to be tortured forever for not believing in what they do, who aren’t bigots, who believe in abortions, who hate rapist priests. When people aren’t mad at you all the time, it’s so much more peaceful to reciprocate.

It’s easy to fall into antitheism when the only religious people around you are structurally supporting evil, it’s hard when you see that people can actually have a positive relationship with their religion and community, even if they are incorrect about some metaphysical truth.

  • Solar Sails, Generational and Cryogenic Ships: We’d be able to see the craft slowly approaching us. Covering it up would be increasingly impossible as it approaches us because as the comrade from before said, telescopes are readily available technology. Even if there was a coverup of an international scale that had the support of every single institution, it would require dealing with thousands of amateur astronomers and utterly subverting scientific peer-review.

Wow: The Signal has never been repeated. It could genuinely be aliens who sent it by accident. Other more sensitive radio telescopes didn’t detect it though. The discoverer believes that while it isn’t impossible that the signal is extraterrestrial in origin it could also be some nonsense done on Earth. The signal band is protected but it could be interference from a close-by frequency or someone with a powerful transmitter making the funniest pirate radio broadcast ever.

Asteroid: If they were trying to communicate with their folks back home, there’s a good chance we’d pick it up. Furthermore, maintaining a livable space station on an asteroid will generate waste heat and such. Our astronomers would probably notice such an anomaly.
