I like summer and if that racist shithead Michael Richards disagrees I’m doubling down.
The fuck’s a “season”?

As someone who is constantly cold unless I’m at 75°F or above, this looks amazing. Thanks, dysautonomia!
It’s p nice being able to wear a jacket, there’s areas like this all over the Highlands. The regions north of Hanoi is like this too, Sa Pa (gives ski resort town vibes, was just some poor ethnic minority villages 20 years ago, now it has a ton of investment and Vietnamese moved in from all over the country), Ha Giang (was the poorest area, now a lot of tourists go there, the cops there suck), Cao Bang (nearly as poor, didn’t get as many tourists, but the people are way more chill, better hiking IMO), but Da Lat is a bit more charming.
Many areas in Yunnan, China, incl Kunming, a city of 10m have similar climate, and great food if you like mushrooms. Medellin in Colombia is also pretty stable and an amazing place to live, but a little warmer.
Tbh when my body temp is under 75F, I’m also kinda cold
Oh, you meant air temp? Tbh I’d say lucky you because it’s easier to put on clothes when it’s cold than it is to be more naked when you’re hot
Is there a place like this but like 40°F and moist?
Mostly islands in the antarctic ocean or north atlantic, off alaska, and a few in the Andes if you prefer mountains.
Vietnam does not use the metric system? Prolly then the only victory the US achieved in the Vietnam war lol
They do, but I’m from America so I use whatever.
Also we have kinda do seasons here, right now it’s “wet”, meaning in the highlands it tends to be drizzly and clouds more often, and you get 1-2 15 minute showers, and in the low lands, it’s sunny all day, and you get absolutely dumped on for 15-30 minutes in the late afternoon and sometimes in the morning.
Same thing happens in Nigeria Ive heard. I think that many countries near the equator also have seasons that look like this too.
Yes, equatorial areas only have wet and dry seasons, but they tend to be too hot, up here in the mountains, it’s always nice.
In the mountains at the equator…
I didnt actuallt think about the fact that its cooler in the mountains even at the equator so I was always curious as to why large numbers of people near the equator chose to live im such places. I thought they mainly did it cause up in the mountains the view is prettier.
But the heat of the equator gets mellowed out a bit by the heightened level into the atmosphere… so…
up in the mountains the view is prettier.
You’re not wrong.

no, even the hottest summers are many times better than winters where I live; weather below 10°C is just not suited for sustaining human life and makes me want to go indoors immediately, no comparison to hot weather
I’ve been to places where it hits 13⁰ C early morning in the summer, not even high latitudes by any means.
Regardless, I’d always rather be too cold than too hot. Cooling down is a lot harder and usually more expensive.
See I like winter, and where I live we have extended (days if not weeks) of -50°C and below.
The darkness on the other hand, is a bit much.
That being said, I love every season where I live. Summers are nice, fall is the best, winters are great but a bit long, and spring is the end of that long winter.
“not suited for human life”? Really? 10°C is… incredibly mild. Most humans are comfortable at that temperature with just a jacket and maybe a hat.
Cold weather is all about actually dressing appropriately. Every person I’ve ever heard bitch and moan about it are never dressed appropriately. With the right clothing, you can be comfortable at most any low temperature (obviously, extremely low temperatures require specialized clothing/equipment).
The same cannot be said for hot weather, where extreme heat is both dangerous and unavoidable.
Tbf dressing for the heat is absolutely a thing (and it doesn’t mean get naked), but yeah if it’s humid out there isn’t much you can do.

This. I visited Helsinki for the first time last winter, and we arrived just after the peak of a cold wave (between -11 and -21°C day and night). We went with proper layers so we were all right, but the next day on the small free walking tour there was an Indian guy who was only wearing a thin jacket like I would wear around +5°C. The poor dude was shivering and visibly miserable the whole time, so the tour guide made sure to add a few more indoor stops than usual where he could thaw a bit.
It’s a cool 64° where I’m at, I love the summer.
Facts. Fall clearly is the ultimate season. And I personally love Winter and think it’s the most beautiful.
Central coast of CA, it’s an amazing time. Warm during day but well under 90, cools down at night perfect blend
In the South, summer is like living inside of a wet sock.
No. Autumn winds suck, they crack my lips. Winter is miserable. Spring is sneezy. Summer is hot, so what? Best season for surfing. And I’m Australian, our summer is dangerous, but still my favourite season.
I grew up in the northern part of the USA. Summer is also when we didn’t have to bundle up in 8 layers.
A lot of us like sundress / bikini season.
Spring & fall were generally the planting/harvest season so work was a LITTLE lighter in the summer.
All that said, fuck this heat. I’ll take cold any day.
Where I live, winter means:
- Freezing cold weather.
- Snow/slush/ice/sleet/freezing rain.
- Bad road conditions.
- Cloudy skies.
- No sunshine for days or weeks at a time.
- Cold/flu season.
- Gets dark outside at/before 5pm.
I hate all those things. I love summer because it’s the opposite.
A good winter night walk can’t be beat. Layer up just right. Enjoy a silence unrivaled. Enjoy a sky so clear the starlight makes the snow glow.
…uhhh…what type of boots do you own that allow you to go on frequent winter night walks please?
A pair of socks, with a second good pair of wollen socks help. But you just gotta make yourself ok with being cold. It’s really not so bad if you keep moving.
Yep, key is to stay moving.
Just any kind of lace up boot works?
THANK YOU.
I grew up in the north, I live in the South now, and I relish every hot, sweaty, extra long summer. The severe depression that winter would cause becomes a motivator to bake like an oven later in life.
I grew up in the north, and never adapted after moving to the south. I would bicycle every day and still look like someone poured a bucket of water on me just being outside for 20 minutes walking. It has taught me to value the feeling of being a little too cold.
This winter I was in the north again, and was reasonably comfortable in -20C, but not nearly as comfortable as the indigenous people who can walk around without gloves and still use a phone without any issue.
You adapt to some extent, but I think everyone is built different at a metabolic level, something to do with the way blood circulates in your capillaries or something.
Personally, I love summer for cycling but hate it otherwise, detest winter, dislike autumn, and adore spring 😁
Also, you basically can’t go outside. Sure, you can go from a heated building to a heated vehicle then into a different heated building. Or, when it isn’t too cold you can do certain sports outside. But, even going for a walk means putting on a huge number of layers, and then trudging through snow which slows you down, trips you up, and gives you very little traction.
Not to mention that never being able to open a window means no nature sounds for months on end. The cold and snow means no sight of living nature (other than pine trees) for months.
It’s also extremely difficult and dangerous to bike (at least here) so you either need to own a car, spend a lot on taxis / lyft, or spend nearly as long as it would take to walk and take public transit.
If I lived somewhere where winter lasted 1-2 months I might enjoy it. But, where I live it’s 5+ months, and I fucking hate it.
Fairbanks, Alaska?
Nope, Canada.
Also archaeologival evidence confirmed that humans did ‘some’ hibernation during the winter months…
It was too dangerous and uncomfortable to just go out and about during the winter cause you could freeze to death, slip on ice and get injured, since visibility is decreased you are more vulnerable to other humans wjo wanted to steal from you or do you in AND animals too, you could starve to death since there was fewer plants to pick from and fewer animals to hunt. People in neolithic eras didnt really hibernate completrly like bears but rsther entered a state of ‘tupor’ where they did FAAAR less during the winter months until it cleared up in late spring. ‘Why put yourself at risk and be uncomfortable too?’ is probably what theyre thinking.
We cant do a siimilar thing today? Im not saying nobody goes to work during those months but it I feel we would be happier overall if it is accepted that people go to work and go to outings faaar less during the winter months. Im pretty sure in some superarctic parts of Alaska and Siberia that this is already done. I havent read of it being done there but Id find it hard to believe they dont already…
Maybe if global warming hadn’t reached this point it’d be enjoyable.
While that’s a contributing factor, I remember being young in the 90s and still hating summer. I’ve always preferred the fall and winter.
Summer used to be nice and not too warm, but we’re way past that at this point unfortunately
Depends on your location. It’s always been fucking awful here
That’s probably true, yeah.
It does suck, though, because for the past 15ish years we’ve had relatively mild summers (meaning no solid weeks of over 100F), so people brush off climate change because, “it was hotter when I was younger.”
Picks up snow
“If global warming is real, then explain this! Snow. In my hand. …Hmmmph!”
Completely disagree. Even if your working and don’t have “summers off” like you used too. Summer time weekends heading to the lake, going outdoors for a hike or a picnic. Just generally having the sunshine on you is still far far far better than a winter world that becomes black and white for a few months.
If summer wasn’t better than winter in pretty much every way, S.A.D. (seasonal affective disorder) would be most common in summer instead of winter.
Summer is the worst time for hiking and picnics. It’s blisteringly fucking hot out and makes the hike magnitudes more exhausting and miserable being drenched in sweat. Fall is the best time for that when it’s actually cool but not yet freezing.
And personally I prefer overcast days versus bright-as-fuck sunny days where I’m constantly squinting cause it’s so damn bright out, plus the heat it brings makes it that much worse.
Winter bears summer in almost every way for me. That black and white winter wonderland is the best.
This is kinda regional perhaps. Winter here is like 6 hours of daytime at its worst, but most days it’s overcast so you really get 5-6 hours of real sunshine a week. It’s depressing as fuck. And oftentimes the snow doesn’t really last, it melts and everything is just muddy to boot.
Spring is when both nature and people (we’re part of nature after all) start to come alive. Summer is fucking wild. It doesn’t go dark around summer solstice. Like the sun technically sets for like 5-6 hours, but it’s never truly dark for a few weeks before and after summer solstice. It just… energizes you if you’re a night owl to start with.
Yes it gets hot, but the truly hot weather is just heat waves. Surprisingly enough while southern and central Europe was all kinds of fucked this year, we only truly had like 2 weeks of hot and it was a pleasant hot.
And like if I want to, I can just stay in during the day, enjoy my cooled home, then go out at like 7 PM when the sun is still out, but it’s not that hot anymore. You sit outside being bitten by mosquitoes, but you don’t really notice that it’s suddenly 3 AM because you were having beers with your friends, sitting around a fire at some campsite…
We really didn’t have the same summer, south west of france here. First heatwave was mid may wich already was close to 40c for two weeks, then actual summer arrives and sometimes for weeks we didn’t have anything below 30c even at night. I can’t enjoy my cooled home as it’s not cooled. Spent most of summer at home, dripping from the sweat only wearing undies. Every summer is harder to go through than the previous one and it legit scares me to think about how it will be in say 10 years.
Ok summers are bad now but man there was something special about walking outside on a sunny day with some of your friends and no plans. Even as an adult, no plans and good weather is a recipe for a good time.
As long as we can do it indoors in air conditioning.
