    “Reddit is shutting down RSS”

I can’t look back it gets my attention for about 3-5 seconds. It’s sad for me to say that facebook is better now.

It’s more chill here and filled the gap.

It’s been useless as a platform for a while. Now they’re making it more and more useless as a data repository. I use Reddit now like I use Stack Overflow. Only when it pops up as a search result.

So much knowledge is going to be lost, honestly. And before people point out lemmy/kbin (and other Reddit-like fedi software), it’s still not comparable.

Or searchable. I’ve tried several times to find things I’d seen previously on the fediverse and a solid two thirds I just couldn’t find them again.

Reddit results on the other hand are basically a perfect match anytime I want to find something.

Yes, searchability is an issue. It’s partly how the big web search engines work, but I think it’s also partly that many people actively want to be excluded from web search (which is fine on the microblogging side of fedi, but it makes less sense here)

What? Maybe the client you’re using isn’t a great one, but the fediverse search is awesome. Reddit’s otoh, is notoriously shit.

I use the fedia.io search, and also search engines to try and find what I’m after. Ddg barely has any fediverse results at all and none of them are relevant. The fedia search sometimes has what I’m after, but I have to treat like the oldschool searches that didn’t even allow for words being misspelled in order to find anything.

If I’m searching for a synonym to what I type, there’s no hope for me using the fedia.io tool.

Occasionally lurk there via redlib, but the posts are mostly clickbait and the comments just aren’t worth my time. So repetitive and bot-like.

honestly what it’s likely going to end up meaning is that developers of the alternative front ends/apps are going to start masquerading as the official Reddit client and then claiming that they don’t have a Reddit account so therefore they haven’t violated any terms of service. We saw that a little bit when the API got locked down in the first place.

And then leave it as a use at your own risk-style system. Much like how grayjay, tizen and the Revance Project works when you decide to log in your Google account.

Yeah, it violates policy, however, it’s not on the application because they only provided the means of being able to do it its on the user to decide to actually use said means

Not surprising at all. Spez made it clear that he wanted to kill the site during the API shutdown, we all knew that any exceptions to the rule would be short-lived, which is why I cut them off cleanly and never bothered going back. Alternative front-ends may well continue to exist the same way Twitter front-ends still do, but why swim upstream? Just let it die.

Fediverse is just so much nicer anyway. Reddit may have more volume, but most of it is shit. The discussion here may not be as big, but it’s just such better quality.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they depreciated this at the same time, it’s just less known about so wasn’t included in the announcement.

The best thing that can happened for Reddit now is for it to finally die.

Its always had a hyper-shitty reputation for being a powerhouse for the most pathetic and lifeless incels to crawl on this Earth. Now its a pro-zionist, pro-fascist site that, like so many other American ran social media platforms, is clamping down on opposition to the actions of fascists.

Really the discovery that Ghislane Maxwell was orchestrating the Zionist control of r/worldnews should have been the end of Reddit to begin with.

It’s going to be valuable for about 12 more minutes. What happens when no one shows up to create the reason to show up anymore?

Reddit investors are throwing money into a black hole

Dude, we’re already long past that point. I went back to Reddit after three years of boycotting it just to see its current state a couple weeks ago. Every community seems to be a ghost town. Like the subs that I had participated in and enter daily has gone from like 10 plus posts a day to maybe a post every 11 days if that.

Many of the entertainment style subs that I had gone in have been radio for silent weeks.

And then the actual public popular subs are an absolute dumpster fire. It’s either obvious bot posts or people flaming others in the comments, which don’t get me wrong, Reddit always had, but to me it seems like it’s worse. I don’t know if it’s just because I’ve gotten used to a much lower traffic system like Lemmy, or if it has actually gotten worse though.

most of them have been annihilated by the reddits purges last year, plus the amount of AI BOT posts has increased so much that it drowns out users. people still lurk in large numbers though.

I think there’s a pretty solid difference between comments on reddit vs here, and has been since the start, but it also does feel like the comments on reddit have become a lot nastier than I used to use it. No idea which one changed more to cause the bar to be adjusted.

once they fully implement the forced log in, plus limiting the comments, or posts unless oyu login is when people will leave in droves, or if they start banning again.

Have you seen the non-English parts of Reddit? That’s where all their growth is. They admit it in their earnings report, they thank their “AI language translation” efforts or something like that.

I know this is the most lukewarm of takes, but Reddit is in pump and dump death throes.

They’re inflating their traffic and trying to compete as a mainstream social media platform while crippling the things that gave them their initial foothold.

They’re throwing the long game so some opportunists can make a buck selling it at a peak

Why do you think we all chose to go onto this app? Reddit monitors your comments even before you post them and bans you for life as you type……it’s become useless!
