        Well ackshually…

Here in Australia our servos (seppo: gas stations) sell this little plastic flags that clip on to your window or door frame. Dickheads can easily self identify by attaching two of these to their fucktard conveyance machine.

I’m sorry to tell you that toxic patriotism technologies have progressed beyond flags in the backs of pickup trucks.

Besides drug approval, which is not a measurement in itself, I can attest to this. A large German pharma, has increased their head count from 7 to 40 within a year. They bought a local pharma for 1 billion US dollar and at the same time closed a US facility. The same goes for many other pharmas. You can say what you want about China, but they are investing heavily in science. Because they believe in science. Unlike the current regime of the US.

Eh, ymmv. Did you know they defunded BioNTech? The developers of what is now the Pfizer Covid vaccine? Covid vaccine research is desperately needed (see vaccine injury) but there is no funding.

Many EU countries are defunding science. Being a researcher is an absolute nightmare. Brussels is receiving tons more applications for funding because researchers aren’t getting money from their own government anymore. University departments are being shut down.

People who have been doing scientific and medical research for decades are finding themselves on the streets.

BioNTech is definitely not defunded in China. Besides BioNTech, there are more local pharmas working on mRNA. BioNTech have a license / working agreement with BMS worth 2 billion dollars mainly for a mRNA cancer vaccine. Mostly handled in China - again. Because in the US as a scientist you’ll be defunded if you use the word mRNA in your documentation.

It is generally fucking nuts to block what could be one of the major cancer treatments of the near future.

The last thing I heard about Biontech is that the couple founding the company got crazy rich, figured out they don’t like being CEOs of a large company, and founded another small research lab with their money.

Besides, it is a private company, sure, they got government grants and funding especially during Corona, but I don’t think we should give random companies fucktons of tax money in normal circumstances. At least not while we’re doing the whole market economy capitalism thing.

That does not mean that science funding isn’t getting cut, I am still a bit salty that it removed my chances of getting a phd. Fighter jets and tanks aren’t free, and neither is pissing billions into the wind because you refuse to persecute fraudsters.

Both suck but in different ways, meaning that there are lots of ways in which China is better than the USA and lots of ways in which the USA is better than China.

Politics is multifaceted, “better” depends on many things and is not a very good general descriptor.

Adding green energy at 8x the rate of the USA with a total of 3.89 terawatts, which is 3x larger than the entire USA energy grid, and accounting over 30% of the worlds spending towards green energy while the USA has less than 25% of the grid as green energy

          Essentially ending homelessness

A notably lower prison population than the USA despite like 6x the population

A minimum wage set by provinces who are heavily encouraged to give increases every few years tied to inflation and cost of living

Actually working to shift a fee for service healthcare system to a socialized model with significant progress occurring

No airstrikes, bombings of another country, or declared wars since 1979. Even in terms of proxy wars post 1979 has been far more about economic support and diplomacy than shipping weapons

Etc etc but yes Xi and Trump are equivalent because they have a social credit score and government surveillance. That’s definitely not like the America, who has just normal credit scores, palantir, and a large chunk of your tax money funding proxy wars (and now actual war) instead of maintaining critical infrastructure or any quality of life improvements for its people.

It doesn’t, but it has an unapologetic mass surveillance. In China, you use apps on your phone for absolutely everything and anything: all payments, use of public transport, shared bikes, ordering food, etc.

If you say something wrong, or if you’re just in a group chat where someone repeatedly say the wrong thing, your account can be suspended and suddenly you can’t do shit for several days. That keeps people in line, or they find other tricks to communicate, like swapping key words to trick the algorithms, or use VPN, though it’s also forbidden.

Yes, but that’s entirely missing the point here.

Drug research and development takes decades until final approval. If there is a decrease in the US (or an increase in China), you need to look for cuts (or additional investments) in the early 2000s.

The damage this idiot has done will not be visible for quite some time…

Again though, he cut programs that were in motion so as far as we know stuff could have been decently close and is gone now. Also important is the fact that he’s literally a guy who constantly talks and act like prescription drugs are evil and yet is using China having more of them as a good thing for them and a bad thing for his country.

The trend is what matters. China: electrification is going so fast it’s hard to follow. Pollution is going down very fast. The USA: cancel all plan to promote EVs and weaken regulation on gas cars: pollution is to go up. And that’s not including public transportation offset on the cars density, where China is basically 40 years ahead…

The cross-point on air quality might be much closer than you think.

Is it though? Have you been there or lived in a place with high smog and low air quality? Do you or your child have asthma? I made the comment simply as a note of the current condition - you sometimes literally can have a hard time seeing the city skyline in Beijing and I’ve never been to places like Hotan and other more industrial areas where it is worse.

Living or even visiting a place and saying it’s the trend that matters sounds like politician speak. Tell that to your lungs and brain while you sit in the pollution.
