It kinda is though. If I have a delivery to make, i’m not ginna soend 10 minutes for every delivery to find a good parking space that fits my truck or van. I park my truck/van in the street and turn on the emrgency lights to signal to other road users that I am a standing there and they need to pay attention.
Just because your employer doesn’t give you enough time to properly and safely complete your job (while still following traffic laws) doesn’t make traffic laws stop being law.
It’s not a park anywhere button. It just means you’re willing to break the rules, and be a jerk on behalf of your ultra-jerk boss.
Yes, blocking the street “but only for a minute” makes you a jerk, even if you’re just trying to do your job.
It’s the Trickle Down Jerk Economy I guess…
Parking on tge side of the road doesn’t break any rules. It is only a little inconvenient for you, because you have to swerve around and maybe even wait for traffic. You don’t get to call me a jerk because your autistuc ass can’t handle the dynamic circumstances of the road.
I’m sure you never cut corners to make your job easier and quicker? If I can choose to walk 100 meters with a 20kg pckage or walk 10 meters with a 20 kg package. I choose the short trip. Sure I can use equipment to help me lift heavy loads, but it takes time to get that equipment set up. Mulitply that times 50 or so and every day come home when the kids are already in bed and you only really get to see them in the weekends.
Well, it’s a good thing I’m not talking about doing legal things. I’m talking about doing illegal things, like blocking the road. If someone pulls off the street, and parks legally, not blocking traffic, that’s fine!
Readers may notice how I didn’t say I had a problem with people parking legally.
Readers may have also noticed that when my comment talked about breaking the law, instead of facing that, the reply moves the goalpost.
No, I do not take illegal and dangerous shortcuts at my job. I value the quality of my work, and the safety of my peers.
If someone doing their job properly and safely, with the correct equipment comes home late every day, that’s the Ultra-Jerk boss’s fault, like I said. Everyone should be able to safely and legally do their job in the allotted time, without having their employment threatened.
You don’t get to call me a jerk because your autistuc ass can’t handle the dynamic circumstances of the road.
What the fuck is wrong with you?
(Edit) Also, how are you gonna say that to someone who shares a different point of view in an open discussion on the internet, and then go on to say “Normal people don’t get their panties in twist when someone shares a different point of view in an open discussion on the internet.”?
“The system is shitty and I’m forced to do shitty, stupid things so I’m able to see my children. So obviously the solution is to give in and be shitty myself”
Literally go fuck yourself.
Fuck OFF on behalf of most normal people!
You can’t speak “on behalf of” some group that you haven’t the faintest connection with… Normal people don’t get their panties in twist when someone shares a different point of view in an open discussion on the internet.
Are there not parking spots specifically for deliveries where you live?
If there are, I’ll use them of course. Even if there’s any sort of normal parking spot or even a driveway,I’lluse that. Sometimes there isn’t though, so I have to park on the side of the road.
I get it, I used to be a rideshare driver in Chicago and people would pick the STUPIDEST places to wait for me, but that doesn’t actually make it okay.

I used to own a used Chevy Colorado work truck. It had the big white utility shell over the bed with the ladder rack on top.
If I were less-honest I could’ve bought a yellow vest and some orange cones and parked anywhere I wanted.
Leaving this here in hopes it cheers someone up. In Aus, thats the “thank you” button. A lot of times people are trying to change lanes in heavy traffic and no one lets you through. But when someone does, you hit the hazards for 2 seconds to give thanks to the person behind you who just let you through. I always found it wholesome. Sometimes you let someone through and they dont turn the hazards on and I’m like “wheres my thank you??” lol.
Sucks to hear that people are using their hazards to park illegally, that would infuriate me lol.In the US turning on and off (or off and on) twice the headlights/running lights is the same. Though you’ll mostly only see truckers doing it.
If you use this when shittily blocking any roads or pathes in Germany the fine gets higher because the lights prove that you behaved like an asshole intentionally.
Based
Seriously; fuck the people that just abandon their vehicles in emergency lanes with the hazard lights on.
“I’ll only be a minute” Fuck you, you’ll be more than a minute, your shit is in the way, and that ‘minute’ could and has literally been the difference between life and death in an actual emergency.
I hope your shit gets towed and you face a huge fine. Or a fire fighter smashes it up to get to a fire hydrant.
Also bike lanes. They should be instant towed.
When they block the bike lane, I get right in the middle of the car lane. It’s safer and I’ll just be a minute of course.
I really wish people that do this didn’t pull into the bike lane. Like, the cars aren’t getting by because they pulled into the bike lane. They are literally just deciding to block the cars AND the bikes. Like, I understand the instinct to “pull over”. But there isn’t really anything you’re doing to be less annoying by giving the cars 2-3 more ft of clearance.
Edit: I’m thinking about the typical two lane (each direction) road. They are still blocking a lane fully. People have to get over and zipper at the blocked lane.
I’ve used it to “park” and let people out of my car, but never left the vehicle that I can recall. I also don’t wait for the person I dropped off to come back. One notable exception for helping my mom get into a wheelchair at the ER, but that was more of a designated drop off zone that I probably stayed in too long than a proper “no parking” zone. Maybe 3-5 minutes instead of the anticipated seconds?
Yeah, sometimes we have to throw on the emergency and I get out, haul out the walker, set it up, and husband gets out as fast as his cerebral palsy lets him, and as soon as he’s clear off the door I shut it and twin who is still in the driver’s seat takes off.
This does not stop people from getting super pissed though, as much as I try and make it quick.
I was leaving my neighborhood last week and there was a car just parked right in the middle of the street. No hazard lights, no one in it, not even pulled over. Just parked in the middle of the travel lane. What’s more is that there were plenty of places to park that were closer to where he was delivering whatever the fuck than where he parked his shitmobile.
So what did I do? I stopped behind the parked car, laid on the horn until he came running back where I yelled at him to park his fucking shit and called him a fucking dipshit which felt pretty good.
I know what you’re thinking. “Oh yeah and everyone clapped”
fuck you
More like u clapped his cheeks amirite
We kissed and now we’re married. He and I are starting up a BnB where we’re going to solve a wacky murder mystery every week. You should come and stay
I’m in. How do I book a room? I’ll even volunteer to be the victim.
We already have a waiting list of potential guests. People are dying to get in
If people threw rocks this would be dangerous
Where’s that meme where drivers behave if they see a pedestrian holding a brick.
The fuckers out front of the laundry mat that provides carts with wheels on them because they are simply to lazy to walk an extra 200 feet to a parking space. Entitled fucks.
When you hit that button, laws stop applying to you
Is that the button that turns on the red and blue lights on the top of the car?
Not anymore… they moved it to the cameras and made it coincide with the on/off button for practicity.
Yeah that makes sense. Push button, cameras stop, do what you want, seems like a much better way to obfuscate the law.
Where does this happen so much that people are making memes about it? I don’t think I’ve ever seen that happen before in my entire life.
In the UK it’s the taxi magic trick. As soon as you see it you know some tourist who thinks they are on the right side will hop in to traffic.
Los Angeles, for one. Drive home from dropping kids off at daycare, ran into this four times in a 10 minute period-- two on a major street, blocking (admittedly light) traffic.
Ubers, deliveries, Amazon vans… ugh.
Youre lucky.
My town - all the time. Uber eats drivers. People picking up their kids. At SUPERMARKETS and Costco.
Don’t forget in the fire lane
Italy
Anywhere there are lots of uber drivers. They will park in the middle of the street in front of my apartment building blocking the path while delivering someone’s overpriced meal.
I also despise those who use hazard lights to slowly drive around with a broken vehicle. If the fucking car is dangerous to drive DON’T DRIVE IT !
Hazard lights are meant to signify a hazard like an accident or damage driveway forcing you to do a “dangerous maneuver”. Not to warn others not to hit your car because you are doing something illegal.
I can understand limping it down the road to a safer spot. Not every one can afford a tow. In the UK your told to put the hazerds on and get into the hardsholder then limp (if you can) to the next junction.
In my area, so many people are on their phones on the fucking interstate, it’s got to the point where I’m using them when I see traffic ahead in hopes I won’t get crushed between a pavement princess and a semi
In California I’ve seen it mostly done by Uber Eats drivers. In Massachusetts it’s done by everyone everywhere, but more generally Massachusetts drivers treat traffic laws more as traffic suggestions.
Montreal. A friend came to visit me one day and he’s from a much smaller city. He couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw a car double parked and took a picture.
When I lived in Virginia people would park their cars in the fire lanes at strip-malls, usually right under the “fire lane: no parking or standing” signs, next to the curb parked yellow or red. They would turn on their hazard lights and go inside to get their dry cleaning or pick up coffee or whatever.
Of course it’s an emergency, I need to park and there aren’t any parking spots!!
Imagine walking 50m. The horror
Not a day goes by where there isn’t some douche with their hazards on parked in the firelane out in front of my apartment’s front office.
It’s preferable to the people who just stop and don’t turn on their hazards so I have no idea what they’re doing. Still shit behavior, but at least shit behavior and can navigate around better.
