Well even without the glizzy splurge you are talking $50 to have two people see a movie, so yeah the underlying truth behind the joke is still the same.

I’m so happy there’s a dozen movie theaters in my area that sell like $4-8 tickets and food is also relatively inexpensive.

Where The national brands are charging $15 a show and food is Stadium prices.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the occasional 28 hot dog snack, but I’m not paying $8 a piece. That’s insane.

Okay, well that really sucks. I thought I had the undisputed world record for most hotdogs in my mouth at the same time while watching the movie A Minecraft Movie but now I’m not so sure.

What kills me is the popcorn is always incredibly stale. Even if they pop it there, it’s from 10yo kernels and is all chewy instead of crunchy.

I get that prices go up, I’m not terribly mad at $15 tickets. Hot dogs have no business being over $5. The butter and container cost them more than the corn. The soda is maybe $0.75, cup included. If I could take the kids to a flick for a reasonable price, we’d go every fucking week.

That’s only 14 hot dogs per person. Totally reasonable for two adults or six kids in trench coats.

I think it’s been years since I’ve seen a movie at a theater other than the drive-in.

We go to the drive-in for their movie marathon each year. $13/person. It’s dusk to dawn so you can see five movies.

I’m the dad, so I pay for everyone: about 8 people in four cars.

I probably spend a few hundred on food and T Shirts (they sell tie-dyed shirts with custom art every year, so I buy a shirt for everyone in our group).

It’s definitely a better experience and more fun than the best indoor theater.

This is why I always try to get to the theater early, so when I come out of the show I paid for, there is still time to sneak into another movie.

I used to really love the cinema experience but I’ve only gone maybe twice in the last ten years. It’s not the price, which I agree is ridiculous. It’s because there is no longer anything worth the cost. Plus at home with my giant TV I can pause to go pee and eat anything I like.

My son has an 85 inch TV, and more and more, he has been questioning his reasons for going to the theater. He’s in an apartment, so he generally listens to movies with headphones, so the picture is better, the sound is better, so what’s the point of going to the theater?

This is why I don’t go to the movie theater anymore, Jesus Christ. Eight bucks for a hotdog?
