This looks… suspicious

Thicken the border with a darker stain, put some eyes on it and call it cat art in your carpet.
People say “carpets are great, you just need to have them professionally cleaned every couple of years” and I imagine only mopping my floors once every couple of years and throw up in my mouth a little
Professionally cleaned? Fuck that. My carpets are fine without that and its much more pleasant to walk on than floor boards.
I’d probably be OK with very large rugs instead but they seem to generally cost more. Tempted to add rugs on top of carpets though. Cosy and nice on my feet. Probably helps insulation a bit and they dampen sound quite a lot too.
My carpets are fine without that
Ah… sure they are.
You guys act like vaccuums don’t exist. Carpets are fine, you’re just neuroticly germophobic.
Anyone who’s ever removed a carpet knows that vacuums dont do much.
There’s probably more “you” in the form of shed skin in your carpet than there is actual you.
So if you ever get your place recarpeted, it’s worth the money for the thicker layer of insulation. It is just so much softer to walk on, and maybe provides a tiny amount of padding in a fall.
Sometimes if my bed feels wrong for reasons, I can sleep on that extra plush carpet no problems.
I set up a spare bedroom as an office, so my rolly chair goes on one of those plastic carpet protection mats. I hate those mats so I put another carpet on top of it. Chair rolls great, it’s not ugly visible plastic, and it’s really easy to clean up spills right there.
It’s so fucking gross but people are militant about it. I’ve come across more than one bathroom in the USA with carpet in it 🤢
You perfectly described why I hate carpet. Until they invent one that can is machine washable, I won’t live in a house with it.
Carpets are, like…stapled into the ground. Do you mean rugs?
Yes, that’s the point I’m making. You can’t machine wash a carpet, therefore I’ll never own a house with it.
(god, you people can be so dense sometimes)
Yeah, that’s on me. I was expecting you were an idiot that didn’t know the difference carpets and rugs.
Edit: what do you mean, you people? What demographic have I been assigned?
From the sidelines, the category is Pedantic autist.
Pedant, sure. “Autist” feels like a strange addendum.
This is one of those moments where I wish I were already wealthy, because I’d love to drop a few grand to test that hypothesis.
We have a carpet shampooer. It cost less than the cleaners would have charged. Gets used every other year unless we lend it to someone (then like once a year).
The hard part of deep cleaning carpets is moving the furniture off it so it can dry, not the actual cleaning.
If you completely cleaned your carpet after 10 vacuums and 5 passes with the carpet shampooer… Then removed a small square… You could take that square out outside and shake half a kilogram of filth out of it.
They’re like a couch, you’re supposed to clean them regularly and try not to dirty them because its so hard to clean
Yet Americans will walk inside with their shoes on all the time, if you go by what’s down on TV and in movies. Even if you take off your shoes, the feet are dirty af, it’s still nasty af to have carpet indoors. So gross.
Americans largely based refer shoes off in their home. Though they often don’t require it if guests.
I mean, my work boots and some shoes live by the front door, so I hope people get the point.
I mean to be honest I couldn’t really imagine what you see in culture media to be very close to reality, because these sick fucks on my TV are putting their shoes up in their couch and bed and shit. That’s just insane.
Still though, only 70%?! It’s still way too low.
There are also people who have “house shoes” which may be slippers or actual shoes that they only wear around the house.
I don’t know how common it is.
I could never wear closed shoes indoors. Gotta let the feet breathe, man, yuck!
That’s the beauty of free will. Everyone has different preferences and tastes and can apply those in their own home.
Remember, judging others doesn’t define who they are, it defines who you are.
It seems to be a generational thing from what I read in Wikipedia, older people from UK and Netherlands for example didn’t remove shoes but younger generations do. The US is a big mix of cultures so I’m guessing people that came here from all over some didn’t remove shoes but people from other places do, and as we go more people are removing shoes because it makes sense.
Also most people I know have switched to hard floors over carpet as well. For example when we got our home we removed all the carpet but the bedroom
I have cats. My carpet is fucked anyways, I might as well enjoy it
Rent a wet vac.
I have one. First time I used it I was both amazed and disgusted at what it pulled out of my carpet. The water was flat black and smelled like a sloth’s armpit.
Tell me more about these sloth armpits you’ve been smelling.

He has A MOUSTACHE?
He grew it for you
I thought they washed the cat and it cleaned the carpet when it laid down
Yeah, I thought the solution was just to let the cat sleep there.
I mean, that is a bit weird. Drizzling soap onto something just binds the dirt, it doesn’t actually remove it.
Like, yeah, the rest of the carpet doesn’t exactly look clean, but maybe it did do some chemical reaction beyond cleaning the carpet…
I figured they tried to clean up the shampoo spill with a wet rag
Well, yeah, that is my assumption, too, because you’d at least try to clean up the shampoo. But I don’t know, I also wouldn’t expect this to be terribly successful…? Don’t you need a specific vacuum cleaner to actually get the dirt out of carpets?
Edit: I guess, maybe it would work with a short-haired carpet like that…
that carpet lookin kinda sus
Jokes aside, if soap pulls pigment from your fabric, there’s no backsies. You have to dye, cover, or just accept it.
The joke is it cleaned the carpet, that’s its original color.
I understand the joke but, having had my green shirt turned white by dish soap, I wanted to offer solid despair.
I prefer my despair in gaseous form, that way I can huff it and get it through the blood-brain barrier ASAP
A vapor bag of despair is simply the best I can do.
Gotcha.
Spill more all over the rest of the carpet, then clean.
amogus carpet?
it looks like a cat had been laying there for several years
Shampoo the rest of the carpet.
I did janitorial work for a summer kids thing by my local library. One day I found out that some kid broke a soap dispenser. They were cheap ones and it looked like an accident. Soap all over one small corner. No idea how long its been there that day. So I leave the bathroom, go to the woodshop (for older teens) and steal their shop vac. I dumped the sawdust into the soap mess and swept up chunks of it. What was left i easily mopped. Left that corner clean as a whistle afterwards.
Lois from Malcolm in the Middle already had a solution for this issue https://youtube.com/shorts/Zd_mX3lVLso?is=4VhfrKuhUEKnHezO
