It takes only a small amount of risk to make an activity a bad choice. If 5% of people who walk through a neighborhood are mugged, anyone with a choice will avoid walking in that neighborhood, even though an overwhelming majority of 95% would be fine.

The calculation around dating is similar. If there is a 3% chance going somewhere private with a guy would result in nonconsensual sexual activity, it’s not worth doing. Not fair for the 97% or whatever of guys who have normal behavior boundaries, but life isn’t fair.

And differences in average upper body strength between men and women are used to deny women work in jobs that involve lifting things. It can be done in a misogynist way like a blanket ban, or it can be done in a more knowledge-seeking way like requiring a physical therapist to evaluate lifting ability as part of the hiring process and only accepting candidates that can safely lift 50 pounds or whatever. There are structural incentives for the blanket ban in the form of the extra cost, time, and overhead management of the physical therapist evaluation program, but it has benefits of ruling out unusually unfit men who would likely get injured on the job as well as expanding the candidate pool to include unusually fit women.

I don’t know what the equivalent to a professional evaluation of lifting ability would be to certify someone as SafeToDate.

I’m not good at complicated math like addition and subtraction, so when it comes to something like statistics I might as well be throwing pickle slices at a dartboard, so you will probably have to correct me here… But if you have a 3% chance of being attacked by a man, doesn’t that also mean that since you have a 1.5% chance of being attacked by any human? In fact, since there is a non-zero chance of being attacked by a woman, wouldn’t it be accurate to say that you have a greater than 1.5% chance of being attacked by any human?
I’m not really sure that greater than 1.5% feels much safer than 3%.
So I guess what I am saying is that while you and the OP I originally responded to are both correct, that once we start throwing monsters in the pool then people’s desire to go for a swim doesn’t change significantly just because we double the size of the pool.

Actually, what I am really saying is that I just really don’t like any grouping that lumps me in with the pedophilic psychopathic rapists currently running the US.

That’s not how statistics work, at all.

Men are far more likely to rape or assault women than women are to assault men.

Keep in mind another aspect is that your average man is bigger and stronger than your average women as well.

Hey. Just a question. Say there’s a woman and she goes on a theoretical date. She gets tipsy sfter being plied with drinks and allows herself to be convinced to go back to a guy’s apartment. He insists “just to hang out” during that time he coerces her into some kind of act. Could be sex entirely or maybe sex without protection, hell it could even be a kiss. When she sobers up she starts freaking the fuck out because under sober circumstances she would never of said yes to that.

You tell this story to a bunch of people and what’s the generalized perception of what went wrong? She should never have gone back to his apartment. She should have known better. She participated in a risky behavior and while everyone probably agrees the guy in the situation is absolute scum it remains - this outcome was horrible but culturally predictable.

Also your assessment of whether that three percent is an even split is forgetting a lot of other data. Across the board your chance of encountering any kind of violence is 4-8x more likely to be perpetrated by a man rather than a woman. 1 in 5 women have experienced rape and that number jumps up to 1 in 3 when you broaden the term to sexual assault. About 90% of those reported sexual assaults are perpetrated by men. That means if you are a woman between 20% to 60% of all the other women you know statistically speaking have been sexually predated on by a man at some point and that’s just the ones we know are reported because a lot of people cope with sexual assault by never speaking of it to anyone.

That’s no lightning strike. That poster lowballed you significantly on those statistics .

Women are taught to interact with men the same way you are instructed to interact with city traffic and they aren’t nessisarily wrong to do so.

Many women (mothers, girlfriends, sisters, classmates) also play a major role in creating the warped masculinity that Watters is fantasizing about.

So if you’re looking for blame, it goes all over the place, including on closeted queer men like Lindsay Graham and Pete Hegseth and Jesse Waters and Andrew Tate and Ben Shapiro.

If you’ve heard someone taking about Rape Culture and thought to yourself “I don’t even know what that is”, you can always watch that video again and notice how all three other people on set calmly wait for him to finish, including the woman seated directly to his right.

I just think most women are doing the math and realizing there aren’t enough guys out there who are worth being married to to go around, and don’t think the gamble is worth it.

When I was on methadone, it made my testosterone levels plummet - my already low sex drive (I feel like masturbating sometimes) went to 0 (I no longer feel like masturbating ever), and i got Bob’s bitch tits.

They gave me delatestryl injections. Testosterone, steroids. My arm muscles got really big, I could suddenly do 20 pullups without even feeling winded after, and Fuzzy Bunny noticed strange black hairs growing where there were no hairs before. And I felt like masturbating again.

That’s it. I didn’t become this rabid horn dog willing to go up to women and ask them out. I didn’t really get any extra confidence at all, just physical stamina. There was no change in my perceived “manliness”, and most of these types would have probably still called me a wuss while I was on the steroids.

That’s because you were clearly not making enough of these hormones on your own, so much so that you were already symptomatic. The testosterone (and presumably the steroids as well) you were given just raised you back up to normal levels.

Kegsbreath’s talking about offering it based on numbers alone, and it just doesn’t work like that. Numbers are only one part of the diagnostic considerations. If you take extra testosterone regardless of what the numbers say and you don’t actually need it to bring you to a place of normal functioning, you can damage your hormonal production permanently.

Okay, well then when I quit methadone, my testosterone levels did the opposite, and went off the scale of their chart. I don’t recall exactly what units they were measuring, but I think the max for their range was 35, and I was at 38.

        Still no change in manliness.

I’m not the one who downvoted you, and I wouldn’t because you know your own body best. But that one single number really isn’t the measure you think it is, even when it is “off the chart” as in your case.

All you’re really telling me is that quitting methadone 👍 resulted in profound changes to your body chemistry, of which testosterone was only one.

Testosterone doesn’t work alone, but as one of a handful of different substances that act in concert to produce what you refer to as “manliness.” For all you know you were also zinc or B6 deficient, or fat, or you drifted into a diabetic state or were low on precursor hormones, or any number of other things. It’s not just testosterone, and definitely not testosterone as a lab value with no other considerations taken into account.

Which is exactly why Kegsbreath is a fool, and why one hormone out of many should NOT be replaced based on numbers alone.

I have known non-steroid using body builders who take testosterone uptake blockers. It basically forces it to remain in your blood longer than it should so that the level builds up. Some of them had some real anger issues while on it.

Go bald(er), grow more hair in places than you had before, have a short temper, gain muscle without trying too hard.

You have to view women as humans for it to be rape, They view women as nothing more than objects. Fleshlights that can get pregnant.

Once you understand that, all of their rape, their pro-birth, marriage beliefs, everything starts making a lot more sense

Need to dig through my lemmy comments to find the guy I argued with a billion years ago who claimed providing HRT to trans soldiers was too expensive/complicated.

I guess raping civilian women in countries the US invades isn’t enough. Or maybe their skin is just a little too dark.
