The thing that’s so stupid about all this is that YT had the perfect solution like 16 years ago. For quite a while they had banner ads at the bottom of the videos that you could x out of. That’s how you have to do it on the Internet.
People put up with legacy ads on TV in the 20th Century because that’s the only way it could be done. Trying to force people to go back to that is cheeky as hell.
Banner doesn’t make what it used to on desktop and mobile. Even the hotness that was CTV ads on streaming TVs are starting to decline in performance.
Worth noting creators still have a fair amount of control over their ad setups. They are jamming more ads to make the same amount of money they made 2 years ago with more placements.
Because you insist on using Chrome and can’t install Ublock Origin and Sponsorblock.

Sponsorblock definitely helps on the in-video ad reads if they’re excessive or irrelevant. Ublock won’t get those.
I recently found sponsorblock through another youtube bitching post months ago and found it was just as amazing as ad blocking. Sometimes it doesnt get them all, but it hits most and saves minutes sometimes off of watching. I absolutely think its a must have now.
Actually I use Waterfox with both, and ProTube on mobile, but sadly that doesn’t work on my shitty Roku TV

Install Downloader (or similar), then use that to find and install SmartTube. It’s basically Revanced optimized for TVs.
I use uBlock on PCs, Revanced on the phones, and SmartTube on the Firesticks.

Hard to watch YouTube at all without JS
The weird thing about this is for me it started working just fine with both micro block and noscript. Sometimes there’s a delay but otherwise no ads
I had quite a lot of issues where the video wouldn’t load properly, which was annoying as hell.

This. Firefox w/ Ublock Origin + SponsorBlock + DeArrow + Enhancer for YouTube on desktop, YouTube Morphe on Android, SmartTubeNext for the TV. I never have to watch a YT ad ever.
Or better yet, use Grayjay. That’ll block the ads, and prevent Google from spying on you.

Realistically its going to be some a small handful of good videos followed by me navigating what seems like an endless ocean of slop, giving up to then stare at my phone and read Lemmy.
I don’t pay for YouTube, and every device in our home from PCs to TVs to our phones don’t have any YouTube ads on them.
