I’d almost put money on the attendant asked the guy to wait a moment, then she honked because she had to wait in line for an extra 14.7 seconds…but when it was her turn to order she stared at the menu for 2 minutes, then ordered for more people who can fit into her car.
The same type of person who will complain if someone is looking at something she wants, but then will park her cart in the middle of the aisle and stand there for 4 straight minutes.
At my Walmart, everyone tends to be so polite, Ive unintentionally left my cart blocking the aisle until I realize why someone is standing there holding a basket. I kind of wish more people would be like “Oi! Move it!”
I haven’t used a drive through in decades. How is one able to pay for the next person’s food?
Some drive thru have two windows, one where you pay and one where you pickup. So you just tell the pay window that you have your car and the car behind you.
Nowadays most places either only have one window and make one person do both jobs, also they don’t have to pay as many people. The overall service is slower, but no one seems to care enough.
Sometimes you can even find older restaurants that have two windows and one is just permanently closed.
Also Starbucks had (still has?) a trend where you pay for the car behind you as a sort of pay it forward thing. Although in that scenario you probably can’t take someone else’s food.
You just ask. It’s an American thing to do. They think it’s funny to do. Like tipping and charity and other things where you can pay for feeling good about yourself.
What happens is that the next car also pays forward and so on until the chain breaks. It makes the news every once in a while when they manage to keep it up for an entire day.

Sorry, maybe I’m just sunbeat and can’t think straight—or just an idiot—because I still don’t get it.
This is what I’m picturing. Blue car orders as the pink car waits (and honks like a jerk) in fig. 1, right? Then the blue car drives up to the pick-up window to pay for and get their food in fig 2, at which point the pink car can make their order.
At which point between 1. and 2. does the blue car have the opportunity to pay for pink car’s food, get the receipt, and take their order? Did the blue car just wait at the pick-up window until pink made the order? If that’s the case, wouldn’t the staff know that that’s not their order?
There are usually more steps: Order, wait, pay, wait, get food.
When you’re at pay, they already have the bill for the next car who is in wait.
Add in a long distance between order and pay (or a slow blue driver).
How long does it take to say, “One sack of shit, please.”?
If this is true that’s incredible
But also you should have an idea what you want before you go through the drive through. That’s common curtsy.
Dude I eat fast food like twice a year. I have no idea what I want when I roll up. The menus change often as well.
That’s common curtsy.
I think you mean “courtesy”
That’s fine, but there are people don’t think about it until they get to the front, even inside.
And for the record I think drive through should be abolished. They’re a waste of space.
Often it’s actually quicker just to go inside.
When I was working fast food, during rush they prioritized the drive-thru orders over the indoor customers. Drive time was tracked and needed minimized, people waiting inside were presumably expected to be more patient.
It’s been a few decades, but I still see cars slide through a lot faster than our orders when we go in.
Yeah, but only a couple cars can have orders placed at most, so your wait time is the sum of all cars in front of you.
That’s changed now a bit, there are multi lines and they ask you to pull over and wait. But still.
Cutesy
Are you srsly flirting with me rn?? While I’m trying to read the new taco bell combos?! Omg 😳
Eating random extra garbage for what? She just goes around ordering again.
You could give the extra food to someone who needs it and wasn’t being a hugely entitled bitch.
The reason would be that the rudely impatient person has to wait in line again. Unfortunately the punishment will be lost on them, and they’ll take it out on the employees that don’t get paid a living wage.
But also you should have an idea what you want before you go through the drive through.
They have a menu for a reason. You don’t get to act entitled to other people’s ability to look at a menu at the restaurant to decide what they want – nor do you forfeit yours – just because you decided not to leave your stupid car to get your food. “Oh, gee, I’m wasting gas waiting for them to order.” Then go inside.
I had a run in in the drive thru a couple years back. I pulled into one of the two lanes at McD, and another car went through the second lane. I wait my turn, and then try to pull forward, but the person in the other car was riding up on the bumper of the person ahead of them, like, clearly intentionally making sure there was no room for me to take my turn.
So I roll down my window and call out “Hey, they’re gonna get our orders mixed up” and before I’d even finished my sentence the driver GOES BALLISTIC on me. Just screaming “oh my God, really? Really?? Over a burger? Really?? Really? Really??” And I just rolled my window back up. The person drove forward just far enough to keep me from moving ahead, but not far enough to get to the first window to pay. They waited. Waited until the line cleared up. Then they gunned it past the pay window and straight to the food window.
I pulled up to the pay window, rolled mine down and loudly declared “Yeah, could I get my receipt too? I think this person ahead of my is trying to take my food!”
At which point the driver ahead of me peeled out of the drive thru without having received any food.
Window person said that such a tactic had been done a few other times that month by other people.
Would have been hilarious if they slid into a curb while peeling out and got stuck because their wheel got fucked up.
Sell car, buy food
In Soviet US, door dashes you.
McD is the kind of place where they would say “Tough shit, re-order” as well. That’s why I stopped going like a decade ago.
And then places will refuse to let ppl pay for the food of others because ppl like you exploited that system of goodwill to do evil. Thanks for that, making the world worse, one petty small step at a time.
And the lady order?
55 BURGERS 55 FRIES 55 TACOS 55 PIES 55 COKES 100 TATER TOTS 100 PIZZA 100 TENDERS 100 MEATBALLS 100 COFFEES 55 WINGS 55 SHAKES 55 PANCAKES 55 PASTAS 55 PASTAS AND 155 TATERS
Nah, it was
two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda.
a cheeseburger hold the cheese, a hamburger add cheese, a Big Mac with no onion tomato lettuce or special sauce, a large coke, no ice, a small coke with extra ice, 7 large fries with no salt
And 100% reason to remember the name
Wow, I haven’t heard that song in a long time… thanks for the ear worm…
Bro ended up with Big Smoke’s order
No one should be giving money to IDF burger
Apartheid burgers and a geno-side of fries
Is McDonald’s all that much more active in supporting Israel than any other corporate fast food chain?
Yeahp you’re right there boycott them all. Haven’t touched one of them since the start of the genocide and my local independent places are so much better, like ridiculously better flavours not relying on adding addictive shite to keep you going back
Ya they control the government
🥇
Plus their “food” is just trash anyway!
Their revenge on the woman was to pay for their own food
And hers? They took both… making her need to order all over again after being told the person in front paid. So, she likely got excited for free food then was even more pissed when said food was neither free nor available at the second window…
I mean it wasted a bit of time on both side but she could probably just order at the receiving window, since the workers would know the situation already
Sounded like she was in more of a rush than he was and even if it did have an easy solution, the type that gets pissed off at a slight delay from a person being ahead of them in a drive thru is likely going to get pissed off every time she thinks of it.
And even if the workers understood what was happening, I’d say it was a coin toss whether they prepared to help her vs just wanted to enjoy the guy’s trolling.
Though there’s a decent chance that the person on cash and the person handing out the food didn’t stop to talk to each other to figure out what was going on and that it took more minutes just to understand what was happening when she got to the front of the line.
I mean he did have to explain to someone he was paying for the other person’s order so someone there was aware
Their revenge is delaying her even longer because they’d have to put in and make the order again.
Probably could just order at the receiving window after explaining the situation
Now that I think about it, you wouldn’t even have to explain much since they’d most likely know you told them you’ll pay for her order
It’s still an additional delay for someone already upset that OP was taking too long to order.
I think it’s the perfect consequence for being an ass in the drive through.
It just seems like you’d be paying for two meals and slowing yourself down even further without much payoff, since the other person can quickly resolve the situation anyway. Might as well just slowed down ordering in the first place, that way you wouldn’t have had to pay for a second order
Then everyone clapped and he was crowned king and now he lives on McDonald’s Mountain.
A king of burgers, a Burger King
Wendy
That’s his wife
that’s his wife, the Dairy Queen.
This definitely happened.
I worked a drive-through for long enough to believe it.
Same. Every day was like a lengthy masterclass in infinite fresh flavors of assholery and Karen-hood. As soon as you think you’ve plumbed the shadowy depths of the human condition, the floor comes out from under you. Then, all of a sudden, you’re gazing straight into the maw of a clapped out Chevy Trailblazer where there used to be a drive thru window, and the driver is now prancing around nude, ranting about dipping sauces and firing a 12-gauge into the ceiling tiles.
And everybody clapped
LET ME HAVE THIS
This is some god-tier trolling
Americans are so car-brained that “I was at McDonalds” means “I was in the drive-thru line outside McDonalds”
No that’s just basic context clues. He said the lady honked at him so it can be inferred that he is in the drive thru.
Yes, you have to context switch once that part comes in after the initial context was “I was just at McDonalds”.
So you’re upset that the bit that gives you context doesn’t explicitly say “in the drive through”? Do you read at a second grade level?
Are you American?
Yep. And I’m sure you have some implications about my intelligence as a result of being an American but let me just go ahead and jump right out there and tell you, I’m not the one complaining about how hard it is to read plain english.
I’m not saying it’s hard to read plain English. I’m saying that when an American says “I was at McDonalds” apparently he means “I was in the McDonalds Drive Thru” because Americans are car-brained.
What I’m telling you, in plain english, which you seem to be having trouble understanding even now, is that reading at a second grade level is when you start to learn about context clues in writing like someone honking at you in line at a fastfood restaurant, is the indicator that you are in the drive thru. It isn’t implied by being in line at the fast food place. It’s implied by the additional context of being honked at.
Also in the US, so many fast-food places have actively dismantled large parts of their dining areas since the Pandemic so they can cut cost and staff fewer people. The food is also almost as expensive as many restaurants now, so literally the only appeal to these places anymore is that they’re faster.
This isn’t because we’re unfortunately car-centric, it’s because toxic corporations have made eating inside mostly inconvenient
Do you carry around an air horn to honk it at people in restaurants?
No, which is why it was weird to read about a lady honking at jarrett when he was “at McDonalds”.
Because you can’t read? Drive thru exist in Europe.
And are far less commonly used than the counter inside the restaurant. In fact, I’d guess that the most popular fast food restaurants are actually inside train stations where there is no drive-thru lane, of course.
