    Kumail literally had a stand up bit when he was much less well known about being called “Kumar” and how he dreams of the day that he is the goto point of reference that racists use to stereotype other brown people and himself. So Kal should proud of that, at least.

    Also, I work with a lot of Middle Eastern and Indian people with a wide variety of names. It is weird that these three celebrities talking about being mistakes for each other all have band starting with K, containing an A, and ending with L. Kumail, Kunal, and Kal. Maybe it’s not so much about them being mistaken for each other but switching similar names around, like white guys called Kayden, Brayden, and Layden.

      I mean, it’s also the racism that probably causes people to not give enough of a fuck to bother to recognize the difference; but the grammatical aspect ain’t making it any easier if you read at a 5th grade level

          Heh, in a workplace that loves to make acronyms, they suspiciously kept saying one very long phrase over and over, never ever acronyming it. It would have been CUM.

            I’ve worked in a place that dealt with Federal Adjusted Gross Income a lot.

            They did acronymitize it, and would PRONOUNCE it.

        I could only identify Chris Pratt in a line up. I struggle to differentiate between Ryan Reynolds and Ryan Gosling. Then again, I’ve only been to the cinema 6 times in the past decade. Any celebrity news sounds like “curtains for Zoosha” to me.

            Home movie time is for catching up with a century of good cinema e.g. we’ve recently watched Rashomon and Blade Runner.

            For sure. Idc what anybody else’s opinion about that show was, it was so wholesome and amazing. And the ending was so good. Hiding that relationship between two female characters you’d already learned to love for who they are, understanding why bubblegum wouldn’t accept finns absences suddenly making sense, huntress wizard, Jake and his family growth. What happened to humanity, finns struggle with honor, loyalty, and then finding out humans still exist? they really should make a movie. It was a little past my time, but once I watched it, I could see how its target audience could see that love is love, that nobody is wrong for being who they are, the actual important things to judge a person by isn’t who they love, it’s why they love and care about the people in their lives. So many subtle things about that show, as outrageous as it was, really showed that togetherness is what is so important.

              As I recall, he was a perfectly competent staff member. I think he worked on the speechwriting team? It was a while ago, now, so I don’t remember most of the details.

              Iirc, he only worked in the first Obama administration, and then returned to Hollywood. Apparently, having a perfectly normal job for four years was enough.

        Kumail Nanjiani is a comedian and actor. He was in Silicon Valley and more recently he got shredded for Marvel’s Eternals. He’s pretty funny.

        That scene is so classic, I had to give away my copy of the dvd because it is just so realistic in it’s violence. One time I had to just stop watching it half way through and I don’t think I can ever watch it again

        Depends on if you are exposed to other ethnicities growing up.

        People that grew up in a monoculture struggle a lot more than people who lived in diverse neighborhoods and schools.
